Super Late Models Set for Saturday's YMC Mechanical Idaho 208
Latemodel fans get their fill of full-bodied stock cars this Friday and Saturday, August 9 and 10, as Meridian Speedway hosts the YMC Mechanical Idaho 208. Friday’s Walking Sombrero Taco Night features the Zamp NASCAR Latemodels and Motorplex at the Mill Pro-Late Models in a 75-lap shootout, plus the NASCAR Modifieds, NASCAR Trucks, Project Filter Mini Modifieds, and Idaho Asphalt Services Hornets as they race for the night’s Chad Bess-sponsored trophies. Saturday the Northwest Super Latemodel Series runs the YMC Mechanical Idaho 208, while the NASCAR Trucks, Boise Bath and Kitchen Company Mini Stocks, Project Filter Mini Modifieds, and Trammel Construction Stingers race for the night’s Trammel Construction feature flags.
Young Kasey Kleyn leads the Northwest Super Latemodel Series into Saturday night’s YMC Mechanical Idaho 208. Kleyn has been a dominant force thus far in 2024, having scored three victories on the year. No other driver has more than one. Kleyn has parlayed this domination into a 52 point advantage over points runner up Ken Bonney. Chris Kalsch enters the YMC Mechanical Idaho 208 in third place 63 points behind Kleyn in the standings.
Motorplex at the Mill Pro-Late Model competitors Zach Telford, Eric Rhead, and Dan Lowther find themselves in a tight points battle entering Friday’s Walking Sombrero Taco Night action. Just four points separate point leader Telford from second place Rhead, and a mere fourteen separate Telford from Lowther. Will Telford and Lowther benefit from their extensive experience in the Concrete Jungle, or will Rhead break through to put himself atop the division?
Meanwhile, the Zamp NASCAR Latemodels follow a new division leader into Walking Sombrero Taco Night action. Andrew Palmer vaulted to the top of the standings and leads previous championship leader Melissa Weaver by seven points with just three race nights left on the schedule.
Brendon Fries leads Caity Miller and the rest of the NASCAR Modified pack to green twice Friday night. Fries holds what would be a comfortable 52 point advantage over Miller entering the night were it not for the double main events scheduled. Keep your eyes on the championship contenders Friday night as the title fight could swing in a new direction.
NASCAR Truck competitor Jenna Quale has turned consistency into a weapon at Meridian Speedway this season. With two wins and five top-five finishes in six feature races Quale sits at the head of the NASCAR Truck division, with second place point runner Jeff Wade sixty points back and third-place John Newhouse trailing by 75 markers.
The Project Filter Mini Modifieds make their first appearance of the year in the Concrete Jungle this Friday and Saturday night. Amanda Burlingame has placed herself firmly in control of this division at Magic Valley Speedway and looks to continue her winning ways Friday.
The Idaho Asphalt Services Hornets have regrouped after their Eve of Destruction 16 activities and find themselves behind a new point leader in Titus Clancy. Clancy made the most of Eve’s bonus point opportunities and blasted past Cris Endicott, who now trails Clancy by 56 points.
The Boise Bath and Kitchen Company Mini Stocks take part in the first leg of their division’s Short Track Triple Crown event. Morgan Trammel has flown to the top of the Mini Stock standings on a pair of timely wins and one radical rooftop wing assembly. Will Trammel continue his winning ways, or will second place point man Don Trafford put his purple front-wheel driver back out front?
Familiar Trammel Construction Stinger foes once again go wheel-to-wheel in a fight for division supremacy. Ryan Gorringe has the better of the standings seesaw this week and leads Makayla Trafford by seven points entering Saturday night.
Plus, Saturday night features the final Dairy Queen Bike Race for Kids of the season. Kids, grab a bike and a helmet and meet Brent Arte at the turn four gate around 6 p.m. to take a spin around the Concrete Jungle!
