Meridian Speedway
Photo Finish Caps Mini Stock Double
It was a knock-down-drag-out night in the Concrete Jungle Saturday night, July 24, as Meridian Speedway hosted the Horizon Credit Union Twin 25’s. The Bud Light NASCAR Modifieds, Boise Bath and Kitchen Company Mini Stocks, Project Filter Pro-4s, Mulder Engineered Race Engines Junior Late Models, and Firehouse Pub and Grill Bombers battled their way through twin 25-lap main events in search of the Trammel Construction Feature Flag.
The Boise Bath and Kitchen Company Mini Stocks brought eighteen cars to bear on the second of their Horizon Credit Union Twin 25’s. Outside pole sitter Gary Luck got to the gas pedal first and piloted his machine to the early lead as chaos erupted behind him.
Contact was made throughout the field as racers jockeyed for position. After five laps of beating and banging for position, Ryan McCaul and Luke Wolverton came together on the backstretch. McCaul’s Performance Signs, Healing Heart Counseling machine shot skyward, then landed on the driver’s side of Wolverton’s Hart Construction, Franklin Building Supply racer.
On the restart, quick qualifiers Don Trafford and Travis Pavlacky surged forward, taking fourth and fifth on the Pepsi-Cola scoreboard. By the race’s halfway point, Trafford held the runner up spot in his American Tire, Trident Plumbing machine, while Pavlacky held third in his Burnt River Farms, FVC Construction pickup truck.
As the laps wound down Trafford swung wide, but Luck countered to stay up front. Next came a push from Pavlacky on the inside. Again, Luck held station.
With the white flag in the air Trafford changed tactics, and tried to move Luck up the racetrack with a bump in turn three. Luck slid sideways, but gathered his machine in time to drag race Pavlacky’s pickup to the line.
Pavlacky was initially awarded the main event victory, but after official review, Luck was determined to be the main event winner. The margin of victory was fourteen one-thousandths of a second, or about eight inches.
Riley Rogers took home the Trammel Construction Feature Flag for the night’s first main event, before mechanical gremlins sidelined his Boise Bath and Kitchen Company, Fiesta Guadalajara entry before the second main event.
Josh Fanopoulos was well on his way to a Saturday night sweep in the Bud Light NASCAR Modified division. After winning the night’s first feature and taking home the Trammel Construction trophy dash hardware, Fanopoulos had worked his Allan Marsh Travel Center, CP Express machine into third place before a crash in turn one shortened the race. Brendon Fries and his ATS Inland Northwest, Jackson Group Peterbuilt racer was out front at the time of caution and was awarded the second main event victory.
Ryan Bailey parked his Dennis Dillon, Specialty Supply machine in the Caleb’s Chop Shop Winner’s Circle for both Project Filter Pro-4 main events Saturday.
Nevaeh Hull piloted her Drake Mechanical, Diversified Carpet entry to the first Mulder Engineered Race Engines Junior Late Model feature and trophy dash victories. Championship leader Delaney Grace found the handle on her CoreTec Floors, Western Construction machine in the second feature to take home the Trammel Construction Feature Flag.
Kedric Preston and Jeff Matuska scored Firehouse Pub and Grill Bomber main event victories, while Shane Parkkila won the trophy dash.
