West Valley City, Utah-May 27, 2013. Rocky Mountain Raceways’ Military Appreciation Event on Monday, May 27 found #91 Bryan Warf, from Meridian, Idaho,

91 Warf, 23v Giesler, 24 Waters in Victory Lane @ RMR

in the Western Winged Sprintcars, and #50 Roger Wilson, in the Maverik Modifieds, in victory circle.

Fans were on the edge of their seats—with teeth gritted—as Warf crossed the finish line for the exhilarating Western Winged Sprintcar main event. Warf skillfully piloted his way to the front of the competition, maneuvering his way past slower traffic. A caution on lap 38 gave #23V Johnny Giesler an opportunity to close the gap for the win, but Warf was able to shut down any attempts.

Giesler finished in second, #24 Jim Waters in third, #25J Sierra Jackson in fourth, and #14 Matt Mansell in fifth.

#33 Jeff Montgomery, from Langford, British Columbia, broke Rocky Mountain Raceways’ Oval Record during qualifying—running 12.477 at 108.199. The previous record of 12.507 was set by Andy Alberding at this race last year.

Rocky Mountain Raceways marked the second stop for the Northwest Asphalt Sprintcar Speedweek, which will visit three racetracks

in seven days. The Western Winged Sprintcar Series’ next race will be at Meridian Speedway, in Meridian, Idaho on Wednesday, May 29.

Wilson started the Maverik Modified race in the first position and never looked back. As Wilson led the 50 lap main, a heated battle for position ensued behind him with #30 Nick Parker, #4 Lynn Hardy and #00 Tyler Whetstone.

Entering the last ten laps of the race, Hardy and Parker battled side-by-side. Parker came out ahead and set his sights on #9 Jeremy Eaton, who was running in second. With seven laps to go, Eaton relinquished the second spot as Parker passed him on the inside.

Whetstone, the Maverik Modified Fast Qualifier, navigated his way through the stacked field of veteran racers and was able to pass Hardy on the final laps for a third place finish. Hardy finished in fourth and Eaton finished in fifth.

ASA weekly racing will continue on Saturday, June 1 with Maverik Modifieds, Comcast Super Stocks, Mini Cups, Hornets, and Double Deckers. Gates open at 4pm and the green flags drop at 6:15pm.
