MERIDIAN, Idaho – The ASA Modifieds are back Saturday for another double feature, but the real drama at ASA-sanctioned Meridian Speedway may come from ASA Modifiedsa different division.

The Coors Super Stocks action at the quarter-mile paved oval could bring another installment of leapfrog as Rob Powers tries to hold on to a slim series lead.

The Meridian, Idaho driver moved to the top of the eight-cylinder stockcar division standings with a long-awaited victory over Justin Ellis of Boise, Idaho.

“We threw a whole different setup at it because it had been going away on us after 10 or 15 laps and Justin would beat us,” Powers said immediately after his June 15 feature win. “We made an adjustment that I’m not going to tell you about, and it worked.”

The victory sent Powers into the points lead by four points.

Powers and Ellis will face off again Saturday in the Super Stocks feature as part of Boys & Girls Club Night at the racetrack.

Reigning ASA Member Track national champion Shelby Stroebel — who also won a Meridian track championship in 2012 — will try to maintain his advantage in the ASA Modifieds as drivers in that class run double main events.

Twin Falls, Idaho racer Rick Fowble inched toward Stroebel with a main event victory the last time the Modifieds were on the Meridian track. He trails Stroebel by 60 points.

The Budweiser B Modifieds make a quick turnaround after racing last Saturday.

Randy Keckley of Boise is out front in that division, but Josh Jackson of Payette, Idaho, closed the gap 56 points with a victory last week.

Nampa, Idaho’s Melissa Weaver looks to build on the momentum created by her 10×10 win as the College of Western Idaho Professional Truck Driving Street Stocks return. Weaver enjoys a 98-point cushion in the standings over second-place Rick Baldwin from Middleton, Idaho.

Also running Saturday are the Tates Hornets. In that division, Meridian’s Jess Ryska leads the pack with Nampa’s Lynn Sharp 25 points back.

Saturday’s action will be supplemented with another IDADIV Penny Gold Rush four Kids prior to the racing.

Admission is $10 for adults, $7.50 for military personnel with ID and seniors, and $6 for children 7-11. A family pass costs $30.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with racing at 6:30 p.m. both nights.

Tickets are available online at www.meridianspeedway.com for folks who don’t want to wait in line on race night.
