by Jon Brow, MERIDIAN, Idaho – After a week of open-wheel wonders, ASA-sanctioned Meridian Speedway has a night of fendered racing action of fans Saturday night.6-8 EMS - POLICEems

And, with the likes of Dylan Caldwell, Shelby Stroebel and Joe Barton climbing into racecars, consistency will be the buzz word during EMS/Police/Fire and Correction Officer Appreciation Night.

The reigning NAPA Late Model series champion at the quarter-mile oval, the 21-year-old Caldwell goes in search of his 10th victory at the track since the start of the 2012 season.

Stroebel, meanwhile, is looking for his second consecutive victory and 19th in the past 20 main events dating to August 2011.

The 2012 ASA Member Track national champion and Meridian ASA Modifieds titlist crept to within 17 points of Nampa’s Jentry Pisca in this year’s standings with a victory in the Sean Miller 40 last week.

On Saturday, Stroebel has a strong chance to leap-frog into the series lead as the ASA Modifieds racer buckle in for the first double main event of the season.

Also on tap are the Domino’s Legends in their first action since 2012 champion Phyl Zubizareta of Garden City, Idaho, won the Eldon Cahill/Austin Christopherson 50 on May 29 to take a two-point lead in the season standings over chief rival Casey Tillman of Kuna, Idaho.

The Project Filter Pro-4 four-cylinder stock cars take to the track, too, with one former series champion using a string of four checkered flags to stretch out a points lead over another former champion and Western Idaho Racing Association Hall of Famer.

Nampa’s Joe Barton holds an 82-point lead over Kuna’s Kenny Chandler Jr. after putting together a nice run of victories.

On May 29, Barton won a 30-lap feature to back up his sweep in the three segment races that made up the Project Filter All-Star Challenge on May 11.

Reigning division champion Riley Rogers leads a group of 12- to 14-year-old racers onto the track in the Jr. Stingers, too. The 12-year-old from Marsing is no stranger to winning streaks, having put together a couple of consecutive checkereds during his title run last year.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7.50 for military personnel with ID and senior citizens, $6 for children ages 7-11, free for children 6 and younger. A family pass, good for two adults and up to four children ages 7-11, will cost $30.

The gates open at 4 p.m. with racing at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased and printed at the track’s website, www.meridianspeedway.com.
