Literally.

The Stinker Stores Firecracker 50 and Fireworks Extravaganza presented by the City of Meridian is on tap Thursday at the quarter-mile paved oval and at nearby Storey Park.

The City of Meridian-sponsored Fourth of July celebration at the park will feature activities all day long, and the first 500 children through the gates at the speedway will receive a free grab bag chock full of goodies from the Stinker Stores.

The Mtn. Dew Winged Sprintcars are the featured class Thursday. Although the main event is a local division race, many of the Canadian-American Western Winged Sprintcars Series competitors — including points leader Bryan Warf of Meridian, Idaho, and top runners Sierra Jackson of Middleton, Idaho and Meridian racers Johnny Giesler and Mike Murgoitio — will be in the mix Thursday. Warf also leads the Mtn. Dew standings by 20 points over Murgoitio. As many as 10 sprintcars could roar around the track.

Other classes running Thursday include the NAPA Late Models, the Pepsi Sprintcars and the Domino’s Pizza Legends.

The Tates Hornets will run the final feature of the night. The lap count isn’t determined, but the four-cylinder racers will have the track until darkness reigns and it’s time for the fireworks to take center stage.

Also on hand to take it all in will be Circle Track magazine Senior Tech Editor Bob Bolles. He’ll be on hand as part of the AMSOIL Great American Circle Track Tour. Bolles will talk to racing teams, drivers and fans to get the low-down on grassroots racing in the Treasure Valley as well as discuss trends in racing technology and build sponsor awareness in the racing community.

Meridian Speedway is one of 25 racetracks Bolles will visit this season.

A large field of Hornets racecars are expected Thursday as local racers and out-of-state drivers prepare for the annual INEX Legends Regional Qualifier that will be held at Meridian Speedway on Saturday night.

On Saturday, it’s TEAM Mazda Subaru Free Car Night as the TEAM Mazda Subaru Mini Stocks, the Project Filter Pro-4s, the Legends, the Budweiser B Modifieds and the Jr. Stingers take to the track.

Mr. Green’s Scooter Races also will be presented Saturday. There are three classes for young competitors, and the entry is the same as the bicycle races. Competitors must bring their scooters and their helmets and be ready to race.

Tickets for Thursday’s show are $12 for adults, $9.50 for military personnel with ID and senior citizens, and $8 for children ages 7-11. Children 6 and younger get in free, as always. A family pass for two adults and up to four children 7-11 is $36.

Saturday’s admission is $10 for adults, $7.50 for military personnel with ID and seniors, and $6 for children 7-11. A family pass costs $30.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with racing at 6:30 p.m. both nights.

Tickets are available online at www.meridianspeedway.com for folks who don’t want to wait in line on race night.
