Meridian Speedway roars to life again Saturday, June 28 for the College of Western Idaho Community Night. Back on track after the Dairy Days break are the Pepsi Sprintcars, Budweiser Modifieds and Coors Super Stocks, CWI Professional Truck Driving Program Street Stocks, TEAM Mazda Subaru Mini Stocks, CWI Transportation Program High School Tuners, and the Junior Stingers. Also, Tile Outlet is sponsoring another installment of the Bike Races for Kids.
With a solid second place showing last race Ryan Newman raced his way to the top of the Pepsi Sprintcar standings, now holding a 59 point advantage over second place Colton Nelson and a further eleven markers over third place Justin Segura.
The Junior Stinger division sees Daytona Wurtz holding a sixteen point advantage over second place Taylor Occhipinti, while it’s Kendra Occhipinti clinging to a single point advantage over both Peter Woog and Jordan Harris in the High School Tuner standings. These young competitors look to provide more door to door action this week.
TEAM Mazda Subaru Mini Stocks saw Jason Sanders reclaim the points lead from Jonathan Hull last event, but the real story is Donavon Parker. Can Parker keep up his torrid pace and claim three straight trophies Saturday?
The battle for Budweiser Modified supremacy has seen a new face rocket his way into contention in the last few weeks. With a string of victories Darvin Ackerland has moved into the fourth overall points slot, following third place Scott Durbin, second place Randy Keckley, and points leader Rick Baldwin. Can Baldwin turn in another consistent finish to remain atop the standings, or will another contender be able to close the gap? A mixed main event with the Coors Super Stocks will tell.
Saturday’s general admission is $10.25 for adults, $6.25 for kids seven to eleven. Gates open at 4 p.m. and drivers take the green flag at 6:30 p.m. For more information about the weekend’s action visit meridianspeedway.com or text “meridianspeed” to 84483 for special information.
