Hard Racing Dominates Dirt Track Wednesday at Meridian Speedway
A fast field of Outlaw Karts descended on the Dirt Track at Meridian Speedway Wednesday. Seven Outlaw and Flat Kart divisions battled on a fast, tacky tenth-mile oval as they prepare for October’s Race O’ Rama.
The Box Stocks kicked off Wednesday’s main event action with a 12 lap feature. Caldwell, Idaho’s Payton Weller got to the gas pedal first and shot past pole sitter Brady Williams to take the early lead. On the move early was Boise, Idaho driver Bently Hull, who used to inside line to take second away from Parma, Idaho’s Williams and dash toward the leader. But Hull’s charge would come up short as Weller cruised to the checkered flag.
A blistering fast Senior 4 class sprinted through a fifteen lap feature. On the break Dale Smitchger blasted around Brady Blinkhorn to take the early lead. Blinkhorn fell into the clutches of Brian Henson. As Blinkhorn and Henson battled for second they closed on Smitchger, and with a lap five dive Blinkhorn took the position. Blinkhorn sped away from the field on his way to the win.
Seven fast Hot Rod competitors rolled to green for a sixteen lap main event. On the break Courtney Weller got the jump on Boise, Idaho’s Tyson Martinson to lead lap one. Martinson kept the pressure on Caldwell, Idaho’s Weller though the race’s opening stages while Boise, Idaho racers Neveah Hull and Stephen Smith worked their way forward. A caution flag with five laps to go erased the gap Weller held over the field, but she dashed back to the lead on the restart and took the main event victory.
Idaho Unlimited All-Stars were next to take the green flag for their eighteen lap feature. Travis Anderson sped to the early lead with Craig Anderson and Josh Culley in his tire tracks. Craig Anderson kept contact with Travis Anderson through the race’s first half, but Travis Anderson’s machine was too strong and he roared to the victory.
A strong field of 250 Open contenders took the dirt tenth-mile for a twenty lap main event. On the break Meridian, Idaho’s Ashton Cristiani moved into the lead, but Matyi Crace followed and immediately set his sights on the top spot. Crace sped to the lead on lap three as Cristiani fell into the clutches of Jacie Huddleston and Austin Wiederich. Meridian, Idaho’s Huddleston worked beneath Cristiani to take the runner up spot on the Pepsi-Cola scoreboard just past the halfway point. After a late race caution flag Huddleston made her charge, but Crace was too strong and the Nampa, Idaho driver stormed to the checkers.
The Predator Stox packed the Dirt Track for their sixteen lap feature. On the break Cody Skinner shot to the lead, but the kart on the move was piloted by Nampa, Idaho’s Kizzia Arp, who rocketed to the runner up spot before she tangled with Skinner on lap two in a bid for the lead. This left the lead to Casey Tillman and second to Boise, Idaho’s Nick Durbin. On the restart Tillman wasted no time opening a one second lead on Durbin, and he would need all of it as Arp tore through the pack after her early incident. Arp dispatched Durbin on lap six and set her sights on erasing Tillman’s one and a half second advantage. But Tillman’s kart was too strong and he claimed the Predator Stox win.
The 500 Open division closed Wednesday night’s main event action with a twenty lap feature. On the break Meridian, Idaho driver Kylie Jo Huddleston shot past Caldwell, Idaho’s Justin Segura to lead lap one. Huddleston set a torrid pace up front until a mid-race caution bunched the field for a restart. The green flag waved and Huddleston was once again gone. Segura held station in second while Cody Huddlleston fought off a challenge from Boise, Idaho’s Keisha Martinson to take third behind winner Kylie Jo Huddleston.
