by Jon Brown, MERIDIAN, ID — It’s the hottest ticket of the ASA-sanctioned Meridian Speedway season for more reasons than the obvious.

Eve of Destruction IV presented by Canyon Honda brings the heart-pounding excitement of open-wheel racing and the crowd-pleasing craziness of American iron dragging boats around a quarter-mile bullring of pavement doused with water.

The night ends with fireworks, but fans are sure to experience other thrills throughout the night.

Before the fireworks, though, there’s plenty of automotive action on the track, including World Famous Boat Racing and the Gauntlet Race during which Tates Hornets drivers try to pin in promoter Adam Nelson drives the gauntlet van as a handful of his closest fruit- and flour-throwing friends try to distract the drivers from the van’s windows.

The Thunder Dogs will pull the boats around the track with the goal of dislodging the vessels off the tow-ropes on the rear bumpers of the opposing cars.

The Mtn. Dew Winged Sprintcars return to the oval with hometown heroes Johnny Giesler, Bryan Warf and Mike Murgoitio leading the charge of the local open-wheelers. Josh Jackson of Payette looks for another win in the B Modifieds on Saturday.

Giesler and Warf hit the track just weeks after splitting the main events in the Super Shoe VI weekend at Stateline Speedway in Post Falls, Idaho. The race was the latest in the Canadian-American Western Winged Sprints season.

Giesler holds a 30-point lead over reigning local champion Murgoitio in the Mtn. Dew series at Meridian Speedway. Middleton, Idaho’s Sierra Jackson is third in the series, and Warf is fourth.

Jackson, who has been on a tear lately, enters Saturday’s B Modifieds action just 66 points behind series leader Jay Cook of Nampa, Idaho. Caldwell, Idaho’s Rosalee Weller looks to continue her rebound from a frustrating first half of the season. She’s third in the division standings.

The gates open at 4 p.m. with qualifying at 5 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for Saturday’s night of mayhem are $12 for adults, $9.50 for senior citizens and military with ID and $8 for children ages 7-11. As always, children 6 and younger get in free. A family pass allowing the admission of two adults and up to four children ages 7-11 is available for $36.

Tickets are available online at www.meridianspeedway.com. More information about the track and its schedule is available at the website or by calling (208) 888-2813.
